<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a loss of data by restoring original data even when migration of data fails due to damage or the like of another recording device side during migration of copyright-protected data to the other recording device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: During migration of copyright-protected data, copy data 107 encrypted by an original copy encryption key 409 is stored in a source side device 101. The migrated data is verified, and if the migrated data 111 is defective due to damage or the like during the migration, the migrated data is made invalid, original data 105 is restored from the copy data 107, thereby preventing a loss of the original data while protecting a copyright.
