PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a functional material by which a functional material which is difficult to manufacture by a conventional method, can be manufactured, and the functional material manufactured by this new manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A sample 20 made up of mutually contacting solid-state materials 21 and 22 (not illustrated in Fig.1), is arranged (immobilized) in the inner space 10B of a rotor 10. Next, the sample 20 is heated in such a way that the temperature of the solid-state material 21 is equal to or higher than the recrystallization temperature of the solid-state material 21, and the solid-state material 21 is equal to or below the temperature level which allows the solid-state material 21 to maintain a solid state. Under the conditions, the rotor 10 is driven to rotate at a high speed, whereby a centrifugal force of not less than 10,000 g is applied to the sample 20. Thus, an atom of the large size equivalent to the specific density is transferred to the centrifugal force direction, resulting in the generation of atom sedimentation (gravity inductive dispersion). On the other hand, a large number of atom vacancies are generated in the solid-state material 21 by an incidental crystal distortion due to a body force imparted at an atomic level under the gravity field. Consequently, the diffusion of the atoms with the interposition of the atom vacancies, occurs inside the solid-state material 21. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
