<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a wiping member, a channel plate constituting a head and an edge of a nozzle plate interfere each other to cause damage to the members when wiping. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid discharge head includes the nozzle plate 103 having a nozzle surface 103a where a nozzle 104 discharging a droplet is formed, and a nozzle protection member 200 surrounding an outer periphery part of the nozzle plate 103. The nozzle protection member 200 is movable between a first position where its surface 200a on a droplet discharge direction side projects in a droplet discharge direction from the nozzle surface 103a, and a second position where a level difference between the nozzle surface 103a and the nozzle protection member 200 hardly exists, and is provided to be energized to the first position. The nozzle protection member 200 is kept at the first position when recording, and is moved to the second position when the nozzle surface 103a is wiped out by a wiper member 83.
