PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool such as a lathe, with which a long workpiece can be carried in/out without widening a lateral width of a machine body and in which a structure in a working space is simple. SOLUTION: The machine tool includes a machine tool body 2, a carry-in workpiece mounting device 3A and a carry-out workpiece mounting device 3B. The respective workpiece mounting devices 3A and 3B include a workpiece mount 81 on which the workpiece W is mounted, and an internal-external position switching mechanism 82 for bringing the workpiece mount 81 in/out from the machine tool body 2. A slide door 12 is provided on a machine body cover 1 which separates the inside from the outside of the machine tool body 2. The slide door 12 is equipped with each of the workpiece mounting devices 3A and 3B, and in addition equipped with an opening through which the workpiece mount 81 comes in/out from the machine tool body 2.
