<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelled cleaner capable of preventing abnormal stop on the way of the cleaning work. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The self-propelled cleaner includes: a propelling means 3 for moving a cleaner body 1; a cleaning means 4 for cleaning; distance measuring means 7a and 7b for detecting the distance to a wall or to an obstacle; a transfer controlling means 14 for controlling the transfer of the cleaner body 1 by controlling the propelling means 3; a light source 8 for emitting light; and a signal detecting part 13 for detecting an electromagnetic signal. A reflection means 27 outputs an electromagnetic signal in response to the light from the light source 8, and when the signal detecting part 13 detects the change of the electromagnetic signal, the transfer controlling means 14 converts the direction of advancement of the cleaner body 1.
