905,807. Sensing record cards. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Jan. 6, 1961 [Jan. 6, 1960], No. 694/61. Class 106 (1). Record cards and the like are held in contact with a surface 14 such as the face of a sensing head 12, by a rotatable pressure roller 32, Fig. 1, adapted to be engaged by the leading edges of the record cards to give the roller a slight angular displacement each time a record passes to ensure even wear of the roller. The roller is held in a V block 26 loaded by a spring 38 and mounted in a housing 18. The housing may be tiltable to make such adjustment as it necessary to ensure that the roller rotates a small angle as the leading edge of the record engages it but does not rotate during the passage of the record by friction against its surface. The roller may be covered in a plastic layer 33, Fig. 8, and air pressure may be applied behind it in the V block 20 to force it against the record. Alternatively an endless belt may pass between the roller and the record being guided over pulleys on each side. |
