The cam follower (1) has one end (5) narrower than the rest of the length of the cam follower. In a region at one end of the cam follower, the side walls of the cam follower have smaller mean wall thickness than over the rest of the cam follower length. The side wall thickness increases in the region at one end continuously from the side wall ends in the direction of a crossbeam. The two parallel side walls of the cam follower are connected by the crossbeam, which has an underside (4) provided with a support (6) for at least one gas exchange valve on one end. The support is limited by guide walls extending parallel to the side walls.
