A lifting device (100) has a guide rail (8) installed in a region from a lower portion (81) of a hoistway (5) to a top portion (5a) of the hoistway (5), an elevator car frame (7) provided with a guide shoe (9) engaging with the guide rail (8), vertically movable along the guide rail (8) by using the guide rail (8) as a guide, and used as a base on which a heavy object (1) to be lifted to a position near the top portion (5a) of the hoistway (5) is placed, and a lifting machine (3) for lifting the car frame (7), on which the heavy object (1) is placed, up to the top portion (5a) of the hoistway by using the guide rail (8) as a guide. With such an arrangement, the labor for dismantling a jig can be eliminated.
