<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information reading apparatus having a point scan function and a batch scan function, which can be quickly and properly switched according to a code to be scanned. <P>SOLUTION: The optical information reading apparatus 10 is configured to detect an irradiation position of marker light on an image of an object to be scanned, and to set a first scanning area for reading a code placed in the vicinity of the irradiation position and a second scanning area which is larger than the first scanning area.
