<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of enhancing utilization efficiency by appropriately diagnosing lifetime of a fixing part, that is, exchange time in accordance with actual using circumstances. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the fixing part including a rotating body to subject recording material on which a toner image is carried to thermal fixing, and a pressure rotating body to form a nip part while coming into press-contact with the rotating body; a current detection part 10 detecting inrush current when starting a motor 24 to drive the rotating body and the pressure rotating body; and a lifetime diagnosing part 5 diagnosing the exchange time of the fixing part based on degree of the inrush current detected by the current detection part 10 and inhibiting subsequent printing if it diagnoses that the fixing part reaches the exchange time.
