<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve access efficiency to a file written on a tape by learning function. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tape drive control device 1 includes: a tape travel control part 2 which controls traveling of a tape 10; a write/read control part 4 which controls a head 20; and a seek management table 30 in which seek time from BOT (Beginning of Tape) is registered in the order of written files. In a tape management table 5, seek time is temporarily registered for a file whose seek time is not fixed yet, and when the seek information is fixed after that, the fixed seek time is registered. If a read request is issued for a plurality of files, the tape travel control part 2 refers to the seek management table 30, and controls traveling of the tape so that the head 20 can access in ascending order of the seek time to a plurality of files to which a read request is issued.
