PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding device which can maintain stable optical performance with respect to temperature change and posture change of a device including an optical element. SOLUTION: The holding device for holding the optical element includes: a lens barrel in which the optical element is housed, and which has a hole on its side surface; a first member whose one end is fixed to the lens barrel, and which has the other end on the outside of the lens barrel separately from one end in a direction orthogonal to an axis of the lens barrel; and a second member which pierces through the hole, whose one end is fixed to the other end of the first member, and which has the other end inside the lens barrel separately from the other end of the first member in the above direction. Linear expansion coefficients of the lens barrel-first member-second member and dimensions of the lens barrel-first member-second member in the above direction are set so that the other end of the second member comes into contact with the side surface of the optical element and a displacement amount of the side surface of the optical element and a displacement amount of the other end of the second member caused by temperature change are matched with each other.
