PURPOSE: A system for a semi passive RFID tag and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent the power consumption for tag operation by activating a tag which receives an optical signal from an RFID reader. CONSTITUTION: An optical signal transmitter generates and transmits an optical signal, and an RFID signal reader discriminates the RFID signal originated from a tag unit. The tag unit includes an optical signal collecting unit(121) which receives the optical signal, an optical signal recognition unit(123) which recognizes the received optical signal, an RFI signal generating unit(125) which generates and transmits the RFID signal, and a control unit(127). When recognizing the optical signal, the control unit wakes up the RFID signal generating unit.
