The drive has a rotor (6) arranged coaxial to or concentrically on a drive shaft (2) of a rotational body (1) i.e. plate cylinder. A threaded ring (10), a mating thread ring (11), a stator (13) and another rotor (12) in a housing (8) adjust axial position of the former rotor. The threaded ring is concentrically supported on a rotor shaft (5) in a rotationally movable and axial clearance-free manner, and cooperates with the mating thread ring. The threaded ring forms a servo drive, and is coupled with a position-controllable drive that rotates the threaded ring around a preset angle value. An independent claim is also included for a rotary printing press comprising a gearless drive.
