The method involves connecting a drive of a hydrodynamic torque converter with an output of the converter during actuation of a clutch in closing direction. The clutch is actuated in the closing direction when torque on a turbine wheel is larger than toque on the clutch actuated in closing and opening directions. Actuation of the clutch is prevented and/or enabled in the closing direction when a detected steering angle exceeds and/or is below a predefined value. The actuation of the clutch in the closing direction is enclosed when a downhill driving condition of a vehicle is detected.
