The invention relates to a method for operating a water softening system (31), the water softening system (31) comprising - a softening apparatus, comprising in particular at least one tank (32a, 32b) having an ion exchange resin, - a reservoir vessel (37) in which solid regenerating salt (38) is stored for producing a regenerating agent solution, - an electronic control device (34), particularly for automatically triggering a regeneration of the softening apparatus by way of the regenerating agent solution, and - an input apparatus (41) for inputting a quantity of solid regenerating salt (38), the control unit (34) monitoring the depletion of the supply of solid regenerating salt (38) during operation of the water softening system (31), characterized in that - the control unit (34) receives from the input apparatus (41) information about the quantity of solid regenerating salt (38) that is filled into the reservoir vessel (37) when replenishing the reservoir vessel (37), hereinafter referred to as the replenishment quantity, - the control unit (34) derives from the replenishment quantity a total number of regenerations that can be carried out with the replenishment quantity by using a conversion factor stored in the control unit (34), - and after each regeneration of the softening apparatus a number of remaining regenerations that can be carried out is reduced by 1. The method according to the invention can be used to monitor the level of depletion of a salt supply in a simple manner with improved accuracy. |
