The method involves providing parameterizing information of process automation field devices (F1-F3) based on information for device integration of the field devices. Menu navigation is provided for parameterizing the devices by a program module under utilization of the parameterizing information and based on preset algorithms such that application specific functions and/or variables of the devices are specified by the menu navigation. Parameter values of the devices are determined by the module based on adjustments that are inputted by a user i.e. automation engineer, during parameterization. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an engineering tool comprising a program code with instructions to perform a method for parameterizing a process automation field device (2) a computer program product comprising instructions to perform a method for parameterizing a process automation field device.
