The invention comprises the nitrite ester of 6b - hydroxy - 3a ,5a - cycloandrostan - 17 - one and the preparation thereof by treating a 6-R-3a ,5a -cycloandsrostan-17-one (wherein R is a - or b -NH2 or b -OH) or 3b -amino-androst-5-en-17-one with a nitrite salt, e.g. sodium nitrite, and aqueous acetic acid at 0 DEG to 20 DEG C., or by esterifying the 6b -hydroxy compound with nitrous chloride in pyridine. Examples are given. |
