PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic closing device operable to a brake operating side and a brake releasing side by a simple structure. SOLUTION: This automatic closing device includes a drive gear 32 attached to a drive shaft 30 rotated by an electric motor 26 and an arm member 40 supported rotatably on the same axis as a drive shaft 30. A support shaft 42 is attached to the arm member 40 parallel to the drive shaft 30. A pinion gear 46 meshed with the drive gear 32 is attached to the support shaft 42 through a one-way clutch 44 for transmitting the rotation in one direction only. A sliding member 48 having a rack gear 58 with which the pinion gear 46 is meshed by the rotation of the arm member 40 about the drive shaft 30 is slidably supported, and the brake operation wire 22 is connected to the sliding member 48. The one-way clutch 44 allows the rotation of the pinion gear 46 about the support shaft 42 by the rotation of the electric motor 26 in one direction, and releases the engagement of the pinion gear 46 and the rack gear 58 by swinging the arm member 40 by the rotation of the electric motor 26 in the other direction.
