[Also in Division G1] A steam trap, of the type disclosed in Specification 987,344, is closed by a valve 9 acted on by a pile of pairs of bimetallic elements 11, each having three pairs of arms of various lengths (see Fig. 2, not shown). The elements are formed with inturned peripheral portions and outstanding projections so that the whole ofthe surfaces of the elements may be contacted by fluid in the chamber 2, even in the cold state. On heating, the elements 11 expand to become concave to one another, so lifting nuts 12 and shutting the valve 9 which opens again once the condensate in chamber 2 has cooled, due to the action of the fluid pressure.</p> |
