INTERACTIVE TELEVISION PROGRAM GUIDE SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING USER VALUES ON DEMOGRAPHIC CATEGORIES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive television program guide system for determining user input values on demographic categories.

SOLUTION: The system includes user television equipment 44 having: a receiver for receiving program guide information for the interactive television program guide; a user input receiver 62 for receiving a user input from a user interface (such as a remote control 54); a microprocessor which utilizes the received user input to determine user values on the demographic categories; and a memory for storing the determined user values. In one illustrative use of the system for targeting advertisements to users of the interactive television program guide, the receiver receives advertisements also, in which the advertisements have preselected values on specified demographic categories.
