<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for spreading a continuous food dough to a sheet while applying little stress to the dough. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A plurality of oscillating members 103 having a dough pressing part 103A extended in transfer direction are parallelly arranged perpendicular to the transfer direction in a spreading action region 101 to spread the food dough, and an upstream end of the dough pressing part 103A of each oscillating member 103 is pivoted in a vertically oscillating manner for increasing the amplitude of the vertical motion of the downstream side of the dough pressing part 103A compared with the amplitude of the vertical motion of the upstream side. The continuous food dough 5 transferred to downstream side is pressed toward oppositely placed dough pressing means by each dough pressing part 103A of each oscillating member 103 and pressed and spread gradually to a thin sheet. The vertical oscillation of each dough pressing part 103A is successively performed from the center to both sides or from both sides to the center of the parallelly arranged multiple dough pressing parts 103A, and the food dough is gradually pressed and spread in lateral direction which is the parallelly arranged direction of the dough pressing members 103 to spread the food dough in the form of a sheet.
