<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor that is reduced in size and enhanced in performance, wherein the life of a brush can be accurately set. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A brush holder 36 includes a biasing member (spring SP) that biases a carbon brush (brush 21) toward a commutator 10. The initial brush length of the carbon brush in the biasing direction of the biasing member is so set that the expression of A=3C+F is met, where, A is the initial brush length; F is the wear allowance for the carbon brush in the biasing direction; and C is the clearance between the brush holder 36 and the commutator 10.
