In a sliding clasp fastener comprising a pair of flattened generally helical coils 1, 2 made of thermoplastic material and connected by sewing to one side of a pair of stringer tapes 3, 4, the portions of the turns of the coils which are remote from the stringer tapes are deformed in a direction towards the stringer tapes to provide each portion with an arcuate section 1a, 2a having its convex side facing the stringer tapes. The portions of the turns adjacent the stringer tapes may be similarly deformed in the opposite direction so that the section of each coil resembles a figure eight. The grooves in the coils formed by the deformations 1a, 2a are filled with textile material such as a string 7 or seams 8 to serve as ironing protection. |
