The automatic transmission control system incorporates creep prevention effected via control of the pump (P) for the torque converter (3), with detection of the operation of the vehicle braking system and control of the creep prevention in dependence on the corresponding braking pressure. Pref. the creep prevention is switched into operation when the detected braking pressure is above a given threshold value and is switched back out of operation when the detected braking pressure is below a second lower threshold value.
