PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for suppressing a flushing phenomenon capable of suppressing the flushing phenomenon of material powder charged into a metal smelting furnace regardless of the type of the concentrate without requiring a specific device and complicated procedures and applicable to the actual operation of flash smelting. SOLUTION: The air passage time of material powder charged into the metal smelting furnace is measured using a Blaine air-permeability apparatus 10 in accordance with JIS R5201 to evaluate the specific surface area of cement powder. The type or mixing ratio of the powder material is adjusted so that the measured air passage time of the material powder becomes a reference value predetermined experimentally or below. The method for suppressing the flushing phenomenon is, in particular, effective when the metal smelting furnace is a flash smelting furnace in copper smelting operation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
