<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image capturing apparatus and an interpolation processing method, capable of obtaining images which include a lot of high frequency components, have a high resolution and are excellent in color reproducibility. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image capturing apparatus, a horizontal interpolation part 22 calculates a horizontal interpolation value by obtaining the weighted average of an interpolation expected value from the horizontal direction calculated using the signal value of the pixels of G adjacent on both right and left sides of an interpolation object pixel and a change portion from the horizontal direction of the signal value of the same color as the interpolation object pixel, by using a horizontal correlation factor indicating the right and left correlation in the horizontal direction. A vertical interpolation part 24 calculates a vertical interpolation value by obtaining the weighted average of an interpolation expected value from the vertical direction calculated using the signal value of the pixels of G adjacent on both upper and lower sides of the interpolation object pixel and the change portion from the vertical direction of the signal value of the same color as the interpolation object pixel, by using a vertical correlation factor indicating the upper and lower correlation in the vertical direction. A weighted average part 26 calculates the G color interpolation value of the interpolation object pixel by obtaining the weighted average of the horizontal interpolation value and the vertical interpolation value by using an HV correlation factor indicating the correlation of the horizontal direction and the vertical direction.
