Jaws 10, 11 of a load engaging device are connected to each other by a resilient strip 14 and non-magnetic blocks 12, 13 and are pulled towards each other against the force of the strip 14 by an electromagnet 2. The jaws are held apart in their load-engaging position by a plate 19 which is spring-urged into recesses 24 and is withdrawn therefrom by a second electromagnet 8 before the magnet 2 is energized. |
