1,028,769. Semi-conductor devices. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 17, 1964 [Oct. 9, 1963], No. 39794/63. Heading H1K. A semi-conductor device comprises a semiconductor element provided on each of two opposed faces with a metallic contact which makes a solderless intimate contact with the element, two terminals corresponding respectively to the two opposed faces, and pressureapplying means solely by means of which the element is maintained in a position in which each of the metallic contacts makes a solderless and intimate engagement with the corresponding one of the terminals. The metallic contacts may be provided by vapour deposition (possibly followed by sintering), plating, alloying, or diffusion (producing degenerate layers in the semi-conductor). The pressure-applying means may be either inside the capsule of the device or outside as described in Specification 1,000,023. |
