PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To write a picture and insert a black with one vertical shift register, in a scanning line driving circuit, and thereby to prevent the area of the circuit from expanding. SOLUTION: A frame period is set to an odd number times the cycle of a clock signal CLY, and a horizontal scanning period is set to one cycle of the clock signal CLY. For this reason, a Y driver 130 has a shift register 131 which has two stage unit circuits 132 per one of scanning lines 112 and sequentially shifts and outputs start pulses DY according to one cycle of the clock signal CLY.
