PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing method capable of transferring read data by executing scanning by a peripheral device including an image reading function to a desired application even though the peripheral device connected to a host computer does not select an application of a transfer destination each time, in a method for displaying the read data by an application of the host computer. SOLUTION: An application a user wants to use is started to be active, and the active application is set as an application for opening scanned image data.
