[Also in Division E1] A self-propelled vessel comprises a composite body maintained submerged below water level and composed of at least two parallel tubular members 1 interconnected by transverse elements 2 of hydrofoil section having tail flaps 12 for trim correction, and on at least the outermost tubular members there are secured the vertical struts 3 of a portal structure, the horizontal body 4 of which forms a work deck located at a substantial height above the water level, said struts being streamlined for minimum wave resistance. In each tubular member are two anti-roll tanks 9 (Fig. 6, not shown). Two tanks in different tubular members are connected by a tube 10 passing through the transverse element 2 while in the same tubular member the tanks are connected by a tube 11, thus providing for roll and pitch damping respectively. The four tail flaps 12 can be employed to effect automatic stabilization against both rolling and pitching. At least one of the outermost transverse elements can be provided with pneumatic breakwaters and oil may be added to the compressed air to enhance the effect. |
