A slider 10 for operating a pair of flexible and resilient fastening elements 11, 12 which have mutually engaging locking portions 20, 21 and are each joined to a respective one of a pair of flexible strips 16, 17, the first element being joined directly and the second element being joined by a longitudinally extending hinge portion 24, comprises a back 27 from which extend two plane sides 28, 29 for embracing the first element and the strip which is joined to the second element so as to urge the locking portions into engagement, a retaining flange 30 extending from one of the sides in a plane parallel to the back such that the first element is embraced by the back and the flange, a member 34 carried by a longitudinal extension 33 of the back extending parallel to the sides and provided with a projection 35 which extends parallel to the back, the member serving to separate the locking portions, and the locking portion of the second element being embraced by the back and the projection. As shown, the sides 28, 29 taper towards each other at the closing end of the slider and the side 28 is formed with a bevelled leading edge 32. In another arrangement, Figs. 6-9 (not shown) the slider is formed with parallel sides, a flange for sliding engagement with the element 11, a guiding portion and an extension which embraces the element 12 for supporting the slider thereon a portion of which forces the elements 11, 12 apart as the slider is moved in the opening direction. |
