<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for preventing the application or use of firmware which is not released now. <P>SOLUTION: In a system having an image forming apparatus and a server, when a first determination means for determining whether or not the firmware distributed to the image forming apparatus is released now determines that the firmware has not been applied, instruction information containing an instruction to prevent application of the firmware is transmitted; if not, instruction information for obtaining and applying either alternative firmware or downgrade firmware is transmitted. The image forming apparatus obtains the instruction information from the server, and when a second determination means for determining whether or not the firmware that is not released now has been applied determines that the firmware has not been released based on the instruction information, a prevention means prevents application of the firmware according to the instruction information; if not, either the alternative firmware or the downgrade firmware is obtained and applied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
