The invention relates to a method for introducing fuel into a combustion chamber (15) of an internal combustion engine, wherein fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber (15) in varying dosages by means of a first injection valve (27) and/or into an air intake channel (21) leading to the combustion chamber (15) by means of a second injection valve (29). For targeted influencing of the combustion process geared to the reduction of at least one selected pollutant in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine, the total fuel amount to be introduced into the combustion chamber (15) is apportioned to the two injection valves (27, 29) according to the instantaneous operating point of the internal combustion engine in such a way that the concentration of the at least one selected pollutant contained in the exhaust gas is minimized.
