The invention relates to a luggage bin (1) comprising a locking mechanism that has a catch (4) which is arranged on each side of the luggage bin (1), is fitted with a housing (11), can be actuated by a handle (3) centrally mounted on the luggage bin (1), and can releasably engage with a retaining element (5), said retaining element (5) being disposed on a part, e.g. a partition, which is stationary relative to the luggage bin (1). In order to ensure that the luggage bin can be opened and closed quickly, in a functionally safe manner, and using little force, the catch (4) has a safety lever (21) that is connected to one end of a pulling element (30), the other end of which is effectively connected to the handle (3). Furthermore, the safety lever (21) is connected to two stop levers (15) by means of a joint. The stop levers (15) are hinged to the housing (11) of the catch (4) by means of another joint while supporting a stop roller (17) between said joints. The stop roller (17) can be made to engage with a stop notch (8) on the retaining element (5). Both the stop lever (15) and the safety lever (21) are spring-loaded in the direction of the locked position. In the locked position, the safety lever (21) is latched or supported on the housing (11) of the catch (4) in such a way that the latching action can be cancelled by pulling on the pulling element (30). |
