摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display excellent in display quality in both transmissive display and reflective display while maintaining wide visual field characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display in which each of pixels includes a reflective display part PR and a transmissive display part PT includes: an array substrate AR in which a pixel electrode EP is formed on the reflective display part and the transmissive display part of each pixel; a counter substrate CT provided with a counter electrode ET common to a plurality of pixels; a liquid crystal layer LQ which is held between the array substrate AR and the counter substrate CT and contains liquid crystal molecules 40 of which the dielectric constant anisotropy aligned approximately vertically to the main surface of the substrate is negative when an electric field is not formed between the pixel electrodes and the counter electrode; and an alignment control means ALC extended along boundaries B between the reflective display parts and the transmissive display parts of the pixels to control the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules 40 while an electric field is formed between the pixel electrodes and the counter electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
