<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a primer set for detecting thermophilic anaerobic spore bacteria and a method for detecting the same. <P>SOLUTION: This primer set is used to detect at least one kind of the thermophilic anaerobic spore bacteria selected from the group consisting of the genus Thermoanaerobacterium, genus Moorella and genus Desulfotomaculum, and selected from (a) a primer set for detecting the bacteria belonging to the genus Thermoanaerobacterium including Thm16S-1F, Thm16S-2F and Thm16S-R, (b) a primer set for detecting the bacteria belonging to the genus Moorella including Mor16S-F and Mor16S-R, and (c) a primer set for detecting the bacteria belonging to the genus Desulfotomaculum including Des16S-F and Des16S-R.
