PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image higher in image quality by correcting density irregularity in real time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus which forms a gradation image on a recording medium by using multipath recording processing includes: a recording data generation part for generating recording data in each recording scanning motion; a printer engine 180 for recording the gradation image on the recording medium based on the recording data generated by the recording data generation part; a sensor for detecting a recorded state that the image has been recorded on the recording medium by the printer engine 180 not later than recording scanning motion performed once before noticeable recording scanning motion in at least one of recording scanning motion performed by a plurality of number of times; a filter 830 for performing filtering processing to allow a predetermined frequency band to pass for a result of detection 430 by the sensor; and a correction part for correcting the recording data generated by the recording data generation part in synchronization with recording by the printer engine 180 based on an output from the filter.
