Heading F3C. , The breech block 11 is provided with a safety lever 22 which can engage in a slot 5v in the body portion 5 of the gun and a rocker 23 both pivotally mounted on a pin 21. A rod 27 projects slightly from the front of the breech block so as to strike the end of the barrel 6 when the breech block has completed its forward movement. The rod 27 is forced backwards causing the rocker 23 to pivot and force a firing pin 26 forwards to fire a cartridge, the lever 22 also being pivoted about pin 21 by the rocker 23 and remaining clear of the slot 5v due to the inertia of the lever 22 for a sufficient time to permit the breech block to recoil. If there is a defective cartridge or no cartridge in the breech when the breech block is forced forwards the lever 22 engages in the slot 5v to prevent the breech block moving back. The gun may then be cocked by forcing backwards spring-loaded rod 30, Fig. 5 (not shown), which is slidably mounted in the rear widened portion of the barrel and is provided with a sleeve 31 located in a slot 5f in the gun and having a handle 32. The rod 30 contacts the rod 27 which is forced backwards to free the lever from the slot 5v and then the breech block may be forced backwards. The cocking handle may be rigidly fixed to the sleeve 31 or pivotally mounted thereon.</p> |
