An emergency valve controlling the discharge from a tank has a movable closure member 15 with a stem 21 acted upon by a number of radially arranged springs 29 through a plate 27; the valve is opened by applying fluidpressure beneath a piston 24 connected to the stem 21. The stem passes through bearings 22, 23 and a seal comprising rings 35, 36 with compressible rings 37 therebetween; a spring 38 is disposed between bearing 23 and ring 36. A groove 39 in ring 35 leads to a port 40, thereby indicating any leakage which occurs; a similar port 41 serves the same purpose in connection with the piston 24. The springs may be enclosed in a casing 42. The seat 16 is at one end of an elbow the opposite end of which is weakened 43 to permit breakage thereof. The elbow may be surrounded by a steam jacket 44. The position of the outer end 34 of the stem 21 serves as a valve position indicator.</p> |
