PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize an image to be displayed on a display portion of a portable electronic device and to enable the display portion of the portable electronic device to display an image having an active motion. SOLUTION: The portable electronic device 1 includes: a display portion 17 for displaying a standby image; a storage portion for storing the information of a plurality of still images for configuring the standby image; and a processing portion 12 for executing first display control capable of displaying the plurality of still images so as to be superimposed in displaying the standby image on the display portion 17. The plurality of still images are different in at least either position where image constituents are disposed in each image, or color. The processing portion 12 repeats the following: of the plurality of still images, one still image is first displayed and the other still image is then faded in and displayed so as to be superimposed, and the one displayed still image is faded out while the other displayed still image is being displayed in the state where at least the two still images are displayed so as to be superimposed.
