[Also in Division F4] A lighting unit 36 for use in an operating theatre comprises a plurality of relatively spaced light-emitting openings 42 which are connected by a flexible lead 16 of fibre bundles 50 to a common light source 80 contained in a housing 74 remote from the lighting unit. The fibre bundles 50 end in a plate 46 which is adjustable by rack and pinion means 52 to move the fibre ends 48 towards or away from lenses 44 which form the light-emitting openings 42. The unit 36 is adjustably suspended from the ceiling of the operating theatre and the housing 74 may be located above the ceiling in a separate room. A camera 72 may be included in the housing 74 and connected to an objective 70 in the lower face of the unit 36 by a fibre bundle 68, when the fibre bundles 50 are also connected by a light lead 82 to a flash lamp 86. The flexible light lead 16 may be passed over a spring-biased reel which holds the lead taut. A "light tap" 66 may be provided by a fibre bundle 64 when ends in the wall of the lighting unit 36. In an alternative embodiment each of the lenses 44 and its associated fibre end 48 may be independently mounted.
