<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time up to transmission of an animation file to a mobile phone, while reducing a memory area for storing the animation file as small as possible. <P>SOLUTION: The animation file transmission server transmits the animation file according to a request from the mobile phone. The server converts the file so that the file may be suitable for playback of the animation at the mobile phone. At this point, the timing of conversion is predetermined so that the server converts the file prior to the request (prior conversion) for a mobile phone with a large upper limit for the amount of data which can be received, while it converts the file after the request (on-demand conversion) for a mobile phone with a small upper limit for the amount of data which can be received. As for a mobile phone belonging to a model group of which the conversion timing is prior conversion, the animation file is converted beforehand.
