PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can easily correct image data for printing in a printing section, and to provide an image forming method and a printing apparatus. SOLUTION: An area tone setting part 300 sets a desired tone conversion curve for each division obtained by dividing a recording medium, and stores as a tone correction table in a memory part 302. Image data is inputted to an area tone correcting part 216 from a data storage part in the outputting process of the image data. Which area the pixel belongs to is judged according to an address of the pixel in the image data by an image area judging part 304. An image area signal showing the judgment result of the division the pixel belongs to is inputted to a tone correction table selecting part 306. The tone correction table selecting part 306 inputs the image area signal to the tone correction table memory part 302, reads out the tone correction table corresponding to the division the pixel belongs to, and converts the tone using the tone conversion curve corresponding to the division each pixel belongs to.
