The rotor (2) has magnetic inserts placed in cavities of a base body (3), where the magnetic inserts are partially covered by injection of non-magnetic material layer (8) i.e. plastic material layer. The inserts comprise magnets (11, 21) and two flux returning elements (10, 20), where the flux returning elements have asymmetric wall thickness. A shaft housing (12) is placed in the body. The magnets and the flux returning elements are separated by recesses. An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating a rotor of a direct current machine.
