<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic environment adaptive power line communication system and transmission power control method thereof for controlling transmission power of a PLC modem so as to suppress radiation to a peripheral electromagnetic environmental noise level or less. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A power line communication system is configured to perform communication by means of a plurality of PLC modems 2a, 2b, 2c... connected to a power line 1, comprising an antenna 4 for receiving unwanted radiation generated from the power line and a computer 3a for controlling transmission power of the PLC modems 2a, 2b, 2c..., wherein an electric field strength is calculated from the reception signal of the antenna 4 by the computer 3a, the electric field strength is compared with a predetermined threshold and when the electric field strength exceeds the threshold, the transmission power is reduced.
