Corrugations on the annular portion 5 of end cap 4 allow the cap to move outwardly in response to increase in pressure within the sealed capacitor container 1, and when this happens, lead 8 is severed by the edges of aperture 15 of a spigot 13 on the cap and of the centre aperture 17 in plate 16. Alternatively, as in Fig. 2, both leads 8 and 9 pass through the aperture 15, and the shearing action on increase of pressure cuts through the insulation of lead 9 to effect a short circuit between it and bare lead 8. By this means an external protective device may be tripped. The capacitor may be electrolytic. |
