<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a discharge examination of a discharge head more reliably. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A FAX device 10 has a nozzle examination device 50. The nozzle examination device 50 has an examination region 52 which receives ink, a voltage application circuit 53 which generates a predetermined electric potential difference between a print head 36 and the examination region 52, and a voltage detection circuit 54 which detects a voltage change in the examination region. The FAX device 10 carries out cleaning of forcibly discharging the ink by applying a negative pressure to the print head 36 by a capping device. Then, before executing the nozzle examination of the print head 36, a nozzle plate of the print head 36 is wiped by a wiping device 60.
