PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an awakening system and an awakening method which attains a comfortable awakening. SOLUTION: The awakening system 1 is installed in a vehicle 2 to be used and includes: a camera 10 for photographing a face image of an occupant 4; a light source 20 for awakening the occupant 4 by emitting light to an eye of the occupant 4; a navigation system 30; and a control ECU 40. The control ECU 40 measures the degree of opening of an eyelid from the face image photographed by the camera 10 and reduces the brightness of the light emitted by the light source 20 when the eyelid opens.
